We talk.
I ask what the business does, who tends to call, and what those people want to know before they'll commit. Your words rather than industry words, because your words are what belongs on the page.
A reply to my email is enough to begin. We can move to a call if it's easier, though most of this works fine in writing.

I build it.
A real, working custom site on a temporary address. Not a mockup and not a template with your logo dropped in. You can open it on a phone and click every link.
This typically takes one to two weeks. You've paid nothing at this stage and you're looking at the finished design rather than a promise about one.

You correct me.
We go through it together and fix what's wrong. It's usually the wording, because I'll have described your work slightly differently to how you'd say it out loud.

It goes live.
Your domain gets pointed at the new site and I keep your email working through the change. Payment falls here, after you've approved what's being launched.
Where payment sits
The demo is built before you pay. You review actual work rather than a description of work that might arrive later. For a standard project the invoice is due when the site is ready to launch.
If a project needs something unusually time-intensive before the rest of the site can exist, we agree different terms before I start rather than discovering the problem halfway through. That's rare, and you'd know about it in the first conversation.
Price is fixed in writing beforehand and doesn't move unless you ask for something we never discussed.
Begin at stage one
Which is just an email. Tell me about the business and what you want the site to do differently.
